(WINDSOR, ON) In a move to solidify their point guard position, the Windsor Express have traded the rights to Stefan Bonneau to the London Lightning for guard, Tony Bennett.

Bennett played 27 games with the Lightning last season, averaging 14.4 points, 5.9 assists and three rebounds per game.

In 12 playoff games, Bennett put up 15.3 points and 6.4 assists per game.

"Obviously, it was a tough decision." says Head Coach and Director of Basketball Operations, Bill Jones, "Stefan just returned from touring with a team in China and his agent informed us he would be putting his name in the D-League draft."

If Bonneau is selected, he would not be eligible to come back to the Express until late November and Jones is focused on starting the season on the right foot.

"At this point, we are uncomfortable with our current point guard situation, so we put the offer in for Tony and his agent confirmed he would report to our team."

Jones says Bennett will solidify their position of concern.

"Tony is an experienced, veteran point guard, who is hungry for a championship and really wants to be here." Jones states.

Bonneau was the second leading scorer in the National Basketball League of Canada last season, at 22.6 points per game.

In the post season, he averaged 22.7 points per game on his way to being named NBL Finals MVP.

"In the year and a half that Stefan was in Windsor, he certainly improved and developed into a Finals MVP." Jones recounts, "It will be a big loss because he was a fan favourite but for his development he wanted to venture into other avenues, so we wish him the best of luck."

Bennett will be in the lineup when the Express open their 2014-2015 season tomorrow, Saturday, November 1st, in London against his former team, the Lightning.
