Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas - John Gall and Mark Saccomanno had three hits each and Josh Muecke led a quartet of Round Rock pitchers as the Express blanked Corpus Christi 7-0 Tuesday night at Whataburger Field in the final exhibition game of the pre-season for both clubs.
Gall, batting clean-up as the designated hitter for the visitors, clubbed a two-run home run to highlight Round Rock's three-run top of the fifth. He finished the evening 3-for-5 with three runs and a stolen base.
Saccomanno, batting fifth, also had a 3-for-5 night. His RBI single in the fourth gave Round Rock a 1-0 lead.
Tommy Manzella, Chris Johnson, Reggie Abercrombie and Matt Kata also knocked in runs for the Express, who totaled 13 hits in winning for the fourth time in as many tries at Whataburger Field.
Muecke, who won nine games for the Hooks in 2007, tossed five innings of shutout relief to get the win. He allowed three hits and one walk while striking out three. Jose Capellan, who started, and Jeremy Johnson, who finished, each worked one inning, and Bud Norris notched two frames of shutout relief, retiring six of the seven men he faced.
The Hooks managed just four hits for the evening. Drew Locke's double leading off the seventh was Corpus Christi's lone extra-base hit.
The fifth season of Hooks baseball gets under way Thursday night at 7:05 with the first in a three-game series against the Tulsa Drillers. Sergio Perez gets the call for Corpus Christi, while Tulsa counters with Jhoulys Chacin.
