Round Rock Express News Release

ROUND ROCK - Express starter Bud Norris allowed two earned runs over seven innings of work Thursday night, striking out eight and walking just two - and it still wasn't enough to snap Round Rock's current losing streak, as New Orleans rolled to a 7-3 win.

Things went awry in the first inning when right fielder Eli Iorg misplayed a fly ball, allowing John Raynor to reach second safely. Raynor followed that up by stealing third, and then scoring on a passed ball to give the Zephyrs (7-8) and early 1-0 lead.

Round Rock (4-11) stole the lead in the fourth inning when Yordany Ramirez led off with a single, Tommy Manzella followed with a single of his own, and John Gall doubled to right field to bring both runners home, making it 2-1.

New Orleans took back the lead in the seventh inning with two runs on three hits, making it 3-2, and then added to the lead in the eighth when things really unraveled for Round Rock. Gaby Sanchez singled through the hole at shortstop to lead off the inning, and after John Lindsey struck out swinging, two walks - one intentional, one not - loaded the bases. Jai Miller followed with a triple that cleared the bases. John Purdom notched a single of his own in the next at-bat, scoring Miller from third to make it 7-2.

Mark Saccomanno cut into the lead in the bottom of the ninth with a solo shot to center field, but it wasn't enough to spark a larger rally, and the Express dropped its fifth straight game - the longest such streak of the season.

Round Rock tries to salvage a win from the series Friday night at The Dell Diamond at 7:05 p.m. Astros RHP Brian Moehler will make a rehab start that will hopefully sway the Express to its fifth win of the season. He'll go up against New Orleans RHP Mike Wood.
