(ST. CATHERINES, ON) - The Windsor Express (14-12) snapped their two game losing skid on Wednesday night at Meridian Centre against the Niagara River Lions (8-17). A big fourth quarter propelled a win for the Express, 101-98.
Tramar Sutherland started off the game with a steal and a bucket to give the River Lions an early lead. Tony Bennett responds with a three to give the Express an early lead. Midway through the quarter, the Express lead 12-11 after a hook shot from Chris Commons. The River Lions build momentum, and finish the first quarter with a 22-17 lead.
The second quarter started off with Niagara heading to the line twice, and Windsor once. Niagara continued to build a lead, until Maurice Bolden made it a three point game, 33-30 after a reverse dunk midway through the quarter. Mike Allison put up an easy basket with 10 seconds left in the half, and Niagara goes into halftime with a 45-37 advantage.
Coming out of halftime, Shaquille Keith and Brandon Robinson brought the score within four, 45-41 after hitting back to back buckets. The River Lions went on an 8-0 run to increase their lead to 62-47 with 4 minutes left in the quarter. The River Lions went into the last quarter leading by 12, 70-58.
Windsor went on a 7-0 run to start off the fourth quarter, and bring the score within 5, 70-65. Alex Johnson nailed a three pointer to make it a two point game, 74-72 with over 8 minutes remaining. After the midway point, Windsor and Niagara exchanged buckets. Chris Commons made it a two point game after hitting a three pointer with less than two minutes remaining. From there, it was all free throws. Chris Commons went to the line three times in the final ten seconds of the game, as well as B.J. Monteiro. Windsor finishes the game with a final score of 101-98.
Chris Commons led the Express in points with 29, followed by Maurice Bolden who had 23.
B.J. Monteiro put up 19 points for the River Lions, followed by Logan Stutz, who had 18 points of his own.
The Windsor Express will head back on the road this Friday, March 11th for a rematch against the Orangeville A's for a 7:00pm game start.
The Express are back at The WFCU Centre this Sunday, March 13th for a 2:00pm game start against the Orangeville A's.
