Windsor Express News Release
WINDSOR, ON - Express defeat last year's reigning champions, The London Lightning, 99-93.
Stefan Bonneau's pair of free throws with 5 seconds gave the Express a six point lead and put the game out of reach for last year's league champion. This "401 rivalry" game featured many lead changes and was decided in the final moments of the fourth quarter.
The Express victory was fueled by Chris Commons' 28 point effort that included a perfect 7-7 shooting from the free throw line and 9-18 shooting from the field. Darren Duncan wasn't far behind with 24 points which he coupled with ten assists for the double-double. Duncan's drive which resulted in a basket plus a free throw in the final minute sent the crowd at the WFCU Centre into a frenzy as the Express snapped a four-game losing streak.
Kevin Loiselle also had a double-double for the Express, hauling down 14 rebounds to go along with 12 points. Mike Helms scored 16 points before fouling out of the game mid-way through the fourth quarter.
Rodney Buford was the leading scorer for the Lightning with 21 points in the loss, which drops the team's record to 24-4.
The Express will have a long rest until their next game on Feb.6 against the Oshawa Power at 7PM, WFCU Centre. That Wednesday will feature the GenNext Networking on the Court night and St. Gregory singing the anthem and performing at the 1st quarter break.
