Augusta GreenJackets News Release
Fredericksburg, VA - The Augusta GreenJackets (Atlanta Braves) fell in blowout fashion to Dylan Crews and the Fredericksburg Nationals (Washington Nationals), falling 11-3. Fredericksburg (23-23, 53-56) got a homer and four runs batted in from their star man Crews, while Augusta (21-26, 52-60) saw Cam Magee record three hits and E.J. Exposito drive in two in the loss.
Cam Magee began the game with a first pitch single, but after stealing second and taking third on a flyout he was stranded 90 feet from home plate. Adam Shoemaker toed the rubber in the bottom of the first having not surrendered an earned run in his previous two outings, but his luck would not hold as the FredNats brought three men across to score without recording a hit. Shoemaker gave up one earned run after a hit-by-pitch and two stolen bases led to a sacrifice fly, but then walked the bases loaded before a fielding error brought across the other two men.
Shoemaker was relieved to begin the second by Landon Harper after Augusta went scoreless in the top of the frame. Harper kept the Nats at bay, before the GreenJackets broke their duck in the third. Cam Magee led off the inning with a double, and P-O Boucher brought home his fellow new draftee with a groundout to make it 3-1. The FredNats got the run back with a Yohendry Morales triple in the fourth, as Harper's evening ended after three full innings of one-run relief with the score 4-1.
FredNats starter Riley Cornelio continued to cruise, only exiting the game in the top of the sixth after E.J. Exposito drove in a run with a single to make it a 4-2 game. However, that two-run deficit became mountainous in the bottom of the sixth, when the FredNats plated five runs against Cory Wall. Already up 9-2, the home side added a Dylan Crews two-run shot in the seventh (his fifth homer in his 13th game) to push the score to 11-2. Exposito demolished his eighth homer of the season in the top of the eighth, a 410-foot solo shot, but Augusta would fall by a final of 11-3. Adam Shoemaker was saddled with the loss, his seventh of the year, while Cam Magee recorded three hits (including two doubles) and E.J. Exposito brought home a pair of runs in the contest.
Augusta remains on the road for one more game against the Fredericksburg Nationals (Washington Nationals), before returning home for the final 12 games at SRP Park this year!
