April 7, 2021 - Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League (QMJHL)
Saint John Sea Dogs News Release
The Saint John Sea Dogs (14-10-3-1) scored three goals in the first period en route to a 4-3 win over the Moncton Wildcats (9-14-2-1) on Wednesday night at the Avenir Centre.
The Sea Dogs were without overager Liam Leonard (suspension), Sam Dow (suspension), Hunter Gartley and Charles Savoie (injuries) and Simon Hughes.
Saint John started strong scoring just 1:22 into the game after Nicholas Girouard knocked in a Jeremie Poirier rebound for his 10th of the year. Brady Burns also had an assist on the play, he and Poirier have points in five straight games.
Three minutes later the Sea Dogs' top line entered the zone and it was Reynolds finding Francis in the slot who fed Kotkov with a backhand pass and the Russian sniper found twine for his ninth of the season.
The offence kept rolling as Nicholas Girouard scored his second of the game with under three minutes to play in the period. William Villeneuve let a blast go from the point and Girouard made the perfect redirect, tucking the puck under the cross bar for the 3-0 lead.
A scoreless second period saw the momentum even out and shots on goal stabilized to 22-21 in Moncton's favor.
The Wildcats made a late push breaking the shutout at 2:46 of the third. They would add two more late from Pavan and Richard but Ryan Francis had the eventual game winner at 10:03 off a pass in tight from Kotkov. Dakota Lund-Cornish was pulled from the Moncton net with two minutes to play but neither team would score. The final in Moncton, 4-3 Saint John.
Emond finished with 32 saves for his sixth win as a Sea Dog.
