Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
The Waterloo Black Hawks scored three times in the first 7:59 Friday, laying a solid foundation for a 5-0 win against the Tri City Storm in Kearney, Nebraska.
C.J. Groh turned away all 39 Storm shots, including 16 in the third period, for his first USHL shutout. The Black Hawks defense also prevented a Tri-City tally during nine power play opportunities, including two five-on-three situations.
The defensive effort was made easier after the early offense. Scott Wamsganz benefitted from a loose puck that came his way between the hash marks 2:50 after the opening faceoff, putting the Hawks in business. Derek Arnold scored from exactly the same spot twice in 21 seconds at 7:38 and 7:59. Patrick Divjak added a power play goal off a faceoff win at 6:13 of the second, then Brock Montpetit scored on a partial breakaway at 10:15 of the third.
The Black Hawks see Tri City again Sunday, but at Young Arena with a 3:05 opening faceoff. Before that, the Green Bay Gamblers visit the Black Hawks at 7:05 Saturday night. It's an iWireless College Weekend in Party Town with $5 for all college students who show their ID at the Black Hawks' Box Office.
