Omaha Lancers News Release
Matt White tallied two goals and an assist while Jeff Teglia turned away 35 of 36 shots as the Omaha Lancers knocked the Lincoln Stars 4-1 in front of 7,178 fans Saturday evening at the Omaha Civic Auditorium. With the win, the Lancers improved to 25-7-2 on the year and remain atop the West Division standings with 52 points. Omaha has also now clinched the season series with the Stars having claimed each of the first three get-togethers.
Neither side was able to find the back of the net in the opening period despite a combined 25 shots on goal. Omaha's Jeff Teglia turned aside all 15 Lincoln shots he faced in period one while Matt Green in goal for the Stars blocked the 10 shots the Lancers mustered in the opening 20 minutes.
The Lancers broke the scoreless deadlock just past the midway point of the contest when White got free on a left wing breakaway and executed a perfect backhand between the pads of Green giving Omaha a 1-0 advantage. Erik Haula grabbed the only assist with a perfect lead pass setting up he even strength marker notched 10:41 into the second period. Omaha doubled its lead less than six minutes later when Dakota Eveland threw a side angle shot from the right goal line which grazed off the body of Green and over the Lincoln goal stripe. White and Mathieu Brisson earned the two assists on the 5-on-5 tally netted 16:37 into period two.
Omaha extended its lead to 3-0 less than seven minutes into the third and final period when Anthony Hamburg snuck in on a right wing breakaway and backhanded home his 3rd goal of the season. Tom Craig registered the only assist on the even strength goal, which was Hamburg's first tally in 23 games. Trailing by three, Lincoln pulled its goaltender with five minutes remaining and closed the gap to just two goals when Brodie Reid tipped home his 12th goal of the season with just 3:10 left in regulation time. That's as close as the Stars would get, however, as White, staring down an empty goal, popped in his 2nd marker of the game sealing the victory for Omaha.
Teglia earned his league-leading 18th win in goal with 35 saves on 36 Lincoln shots while Green suffered the loss for the Stars despite 28 total saves.
The Lancers are back in action tomorrow afternoon when they welcome the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders to the Omaha Civic Auditorium for Faith & Family Night.
