Sioux City, IA - The Sioux City Explorers ended their nine-game losing streak with a 4-3 victory against the Milwaukee Milkmen.
The game was scoreless until Chase Harris hit a solo home run in the third to put the X's up 1-0.
The X's kept the offense going in the fifth. Harris started the inning off with a double and Danny Amaral reached on a bunt single to move him to third. Nick Franklin brought Harris home with a groundout to second. The X's grabbed one more off of a Trey Martin double.
Ryan Zimmerman (0-1) left the game after Amaral's single with 95 pitches through four innings. Zimmerman struck out five allowed four hits and gave up three runs and took the loss.
The Milwaukee Milkmen made it interesting in the seventh scoring two. Logan Trowbridge started off the inning with a walk. Bryan Torres tripled Trowbridge home and later scored on an error.
Kevin McCanna (3-1) went six and two thirds allowing two runs but only one earned. He gave up two hits and struck out five and earned the win for Sioux City.
After the Milkmen scored in the seventh the X's added an insurance run. Amaral reached on a fielder's choice and moved himself around the bases. He stole both second and third before scoring from third on a throwing error.
The Milkmen made it interesting in the ninth putting the go-ahead run in scoring position. Milwaukee could only get within a run, however. Bryan Torres started the two out rally with a single and later scored on a single by Mason Davis.
A strikeout of Christ Conley finished off the X's 4-3 win and Thomas McIlraith (3) picked up the save.
The series finale between the X's and Milkmen will take place on Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 7:05 p.m. The Explorers will send Tyler Beardsley (1-1, 5.17) to the bump and Milwaukee has yet to name their starter.
