Explorers Receive 3-for-1 in Trade with GBL

SIOUX CITY, IA - The Sioux City Explorers have again added depth to their pitching staff today as they have acquired RHP Scott Watson, RHP Mark Dibernardo, and LHP Rusty Jones from the Golden Baseball League in exchange for OF Justin Nelson.

Jones, posted a 2 - 3 record in 2009 while accumulating a 3.46 ERA in (26) games out of the bullpen for the Long Beach Armada of the Independent Golden League. In 39.0 innings of work, Jones recorded (38) strikeouts while only allowing (10) base on balls, while opposing hitters hit only.230 off of him. Jones resides in Shawnee, KS.

Watson, posted a 2-0 record with a 3.22 ERA in 22.1 innings of work out of the bullpen for the Long Beach Armada and struck out 12 batters and allowed 8 walks. The Bellflower, CA native will be entering his 2nd season of Professional Baseball in 2010.

Dibernardo, comes to Sioux City after posting a 1-2 record with a 3.51 ERA in 2009 for the Chico Outlaws of the Golden Baseball League. In 33.1 innings, Dibernardo recorded (22) strikeouts to just (8) walks and in primary served as a member of the bullpen while also making (3) starts. Dibernardo currently resides in Prunedale, CA.

"This was a move for us that continued to strengthen our pitching staff, while also adding some quality arms with lower classifications to help meet league requirements that require each team to carry atleast (5) rookie players while also working with Nelson in his desire to play closer to home in 2010" comments field manager Les Lancaster. "

In other news, the X's have acquired OF Kurt Crowell from the Winnipeg Goldeyes of the Northern league for a player to be named later.

The 2010 season kicks off on May 13th as the Sioux City Explorers travel to the El Paso Diablo's for (4) games before traveling to Grand Prairie to take on the Airhogs for three games before returning home for their home opener on May 21st versus their I-29 rivals, the Sioux Falls Canaries.
