Wheeling Nailers News Release

WHEELING, WV - The Wheeling Nailers, the "AA" affiliate of the Pittsburgh Penguins and the Philadelphia Flyers, announced today defenseman Jeremy Swanson will be joining the Nailers for the 2007-08 season.

Swanson, 23, has played at least 10 games in the American Hockey League in each of three seasons in professional hockey. He spent the majority of the 2006-07 season as a member of the Rochester Americans (AHL), playing in 47 games in the regular season and another six in the playoffs.

"We are expecting Jeremy to really solidify our defense this year," said Nailers President Jim Brooks. "He is, not only, an outstanding hockey player but he has plenty of experience at the next level which will be a tremendous asset to our entire team."

The 6-foot, 210 pound native of Red Rock, Ontario was selected in the sixth round (#169 overall) by the Florida Panthers in the 2002 NHL Entry Draft. He has split his three professional seasons almost evenly between the AHL (79 games) and the ECHL (74 games.)

The Nailers will be the third ECHL team for Swanson who began his career with the Texas Wildcatters in 2004 before spending parts of the last two seasons as a member of the Florida Everblades.

The Nailers will open the ECHL's 20th Anniversary season with a game against the Johnstown Chiefs on Oct. 18th. It will be a rematch of Game 7 from the first-ever ECHL Finals. Wheeling will open their home schedule on Oct. 26 against the South Carolina Stingrays.
