Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) When they take the field for the 2012 season, the Edmonton Eskimos will have a new look as the club displayed it's new jerseys for the first time today.
Reebok designers worked closely with long-time Eskimo equipment manager, Dwayne Mandrusiak to achieve a look that is both classic and fresh. Both the home and away jerseys feature multi-striped arm bands with the "floating" EE logo made famous during the Five in a Row era, and new striping on the neck yoke. The helmet, pants, socks combination for home games remain unchanged.
Reebok Director of Marketing Stewart Clark explained "After 2 years of hard work and close collaboration with the CFL and the teams, Reebok is proud to introduce its reengineered CFL jersey. For a greater range of motion and a better on field experience, the new On Field jersey is tighter, lighter and now features a moisture wicking technology incorporated in the fabric. The fan jersey has also been improved to offer a more lifestyle fit."
The biggest departure from tradition is found on Edmonton's white road jersey which now sports green on the shoulders and side panels. The club will also wear green pants and reintroduce a green helmet, first worn in 2006.
Eskimo President and CEO Len Rhodes says "We were mindful that any re-design would have to strike a balance between respecting our proud club history and offering an exciting new look to our fans. These jerseys are a perfect launch pad for a new era in our club's retail operations".
Two of the Esks' bright young stars - Offensive lineman Simeon Rottier and receiver Nate Coehoorn - modeled the new outfits at the newly renamed Eskimo Shop at Commonwealth Stadium. The club which now runs its own merchandise operations, also announced official launch of its new on-line store shop.esks.com.
The new Esks jerseys will be on sale exclusively for the next five days at the Eskimo Fan Shop at Commonwealth Stadium, before being made available to other retailers in the market.
