(O'Fallon, Missouri) - The Evansville Otters scored a season high in runs, withstood a late River City rally, and held on for a 16-11 win on Sunday night.

The victory is the first for Evansville at T.R. Hughes Ballpark since June 29, 2008 and also assisted the Otters in avoiding a series sweep.

Evansville held an early edge, and built up a 13-3 lead after a six run, fifth inning. River City stormed back though, cutting the deficit to 15-10 by the end of the next inning.

Both teams would add a run in the eighth and the Rascals were hungry for even more. Otters closer Eric Massingham was called in to pitch with the bases loaded and two outs in a 16-11 game. He faced pinch hitter Curran Redal who looped the ball to shallow left field. Shortstop Jon Karcich sprinted over to the spot, made a lunging catch, keeping the bases loaded.

Massingham finished the three hour and fifty one minute marathon, by pitching a scoreless ninth inning and prevailing for the 16-11 win.

Evansville improves to 6-9 this season in the wild win, as River City falls to 12-3.

Infielder Frank Martinez went 3 for 5 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. First baseman Andrew Kuhn also recorded the first four hit game for any Evansville Otter this season. Outfielder Alex Foltz finished 1 for 4 with his first home run this season, three runs scored, and three runs batted in.

Matt Zielinski (2-1) is the winning pitcher, as James Sullivan (2-1) takes the loss and closer Eric Massingham earned his third save.

There were a total of 27 runs, 32 hits, 8 errors, and 11 pitchers used in the contest.

Evansville is off on Monday and will begin a three-game homestand at Historic Bosse Field on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. It is Deaconess Home Services Night at the ballpark and fans can enjoy $1 popcorn at the game.
