Edmonton Elks News Release
(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos have released import defensive tackle Dario Romero, the club announced today.
A veteran of six CFL seasons, four with Edmonton, Romero began his pro career with the Esks in 2001. The Eastern Washington product joined the Miami Dolphins in 2002 and spent four years in the NFL. He returned to the CFL with Montreal for the 2006 and '07 seasons. Romero signed as a free agent with Edmonton in 2008 and enjoyed his best CFL season with 30 defensive tackles, six sacks and four tackles for losses. He was named a CFL West Division All-Star in 2008 and 2009. Last season, Romero started in 15 games and was named to the CFLPA All-Star team.
In announcing the move, Eskimo General Manager Eric Tillman says, "In a salary cap era, the reality is we're often faced with difficult choices. It's a great game, but often times a very challenging business when age and economics come into play. That said, Dario's toughness and professionalism are well documented. He leaves with our respect and best wishes."
