Esks on a roll as Argos come calling

September 28, 2007 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Edmonton Elks News Release

Three weeks ago the Eskimos were perilously close to putting themselves out of playoff contention. But back-to-back wins over the Alouettes have put Edmonton squarely back in the thick of things in the CFL West. Why the turnaround? According to Head Coach Danny Maciocia, "We're playing smart, disciplined football, not giving our opponents cheap first downs and we're doing the little things well and, at the end of the day, we've lost games because we didn't take care of the little things."

In the first win over the Als, Edmonton put up 47 points. Last Sunday, Edmonton's points came off the foot of Sean Fleming as the offence failed to score a touchdown. The key to victory was a stifling defence that posted six sacks and limited the Als to just 10 points at home.

The Argos are coming off a convincing win over Winnipeg and have long been a problem for the Esks. The Argos are 5-1-0 in their last six games against Edmonton and are undefeated on their last three trips to Commonwealth.

Look for a few line-up changes this week. WR TJ Acree re-injured his foot and will not dress and veteran DL Robert Brown is also hobbled with a foot injury and is questionable for Friday. Look for DB Stanford Samuels to return after missing the last game with a mild concussion.

What's that noise? Argo President & CEO Keith Pelley will lend his vocal "talents" to the national anthem on Friday. Pelley lost a wager with Eskimo President & CEO Rick LeLacheur that LeLacheur could not quit smoking by the end of summer. Rick wins, so Keith sings.
