Esks ink veteran NFL linebacker

(Edmonton) The Edmonton Eskimos announced today they have signed six-year NFL veteran linebacker Ronnie Heard. He cracked the San Francisco 49ers lineup as an undrafted rookie free agent in April 2000 and went on to play 69 games over five seasons with the 49ers. In 2004, Heard played in 16 games with a career high 14 starts at free safety and finished the season with a personal best 79 tackles.

In March 2005, Heard signed as a free agent with the Atlanta Falcons and played in 16 games that season.

Heard attended Brazoswood High School in Clute, Texas, where he played cornerback, free safety, tight end and wide receiver. He earned letters in track, basketball, football and baseball.
