(Edmonton) - The Edmonton Eskimos have teamed up with TELUS to donate a cellphone charging station to the Stollery Children's Hospital to help families stay connected to loved ones.
Last season, players and coaches personally donated money to buy the charging station after a team vote on which charity to support. Rather than have the team pay for the unit, TELUS generously donated it, allowing the team funds to be directly donated to care at the Stollery.
Eskimos Head Coach Jason Maas saw first-hand the need for a charging station at the Stollery emergency department after a visit there with one of his children.
"It's always a great thing when you have the opportunity to give back to the Stollery. The TELUS charging station is one small way that allows families to stay connected with loved ones using charged devices which can hopefully make their stay a little bit easier," says Maas.
The charging station will be located in the Stollery Emergency Department as of July 6 and is free for all families receiving care at the hospital to help them stay connected to loved ones during difficult circumstances.
"Eskimos players getting together to raise money to buy a portable charger for the Stollery Children's Hospital speaks to both the character of the individual players and to the class of the team," says Martin Schuldhaus, vice-president, Stollery Children's Hospital Foundation.
"Whether it's coming to one of our events to sign autographs, or making kids smile with a visit to The Beach, the Edmonton Eskimo Football Club continually demonstrates that children's health is a priority in their community and in their backyard, and for that we're so grateful."
