Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
The Owlz struggled from the start in the final game of their series with the Idaho Falls Chukars, ultimately losing 7-1. The Owlz ended up having more errors than hits as they tried to sweep the Chukars in their first home series.
Most of the credit belongs to Idaho Falls starting pitcher, Michael Mariot, who pitched seven strong innings only giving up three hits and striking out six. Mariot only gave up one earned run on the night in his second appearance against Orem on the season.
"We just faced a good pitcher tonight," Owlz manager, Tom Kotchman, said. "Our relievers gave us a chance to win, but didn't."
The Owlz' night was typified by a play in the sixth inning in which they committed three errors on one play allowing Jake Kuebler to score all the way from first on what started as just an attempt to steal second base.
"We've got to learn from our mistakes at this point," Kotchman said.
The Chukars had seven hits on 0-2 or 1-2 counts on Monday night.
"When you combine that with five errors, you get what you got tonight," Kotchman said.
The Owlz will welcome the Ogden Raptors to the Home of the Owlz on Tuesday night to begin a four game series with their rivals from up Interstate-15.
