Taylor Named PL Pitcher of the Week

June 28, 2010 - Pioneer League (PL)
Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MONT - On a night in which the Missoula Osprey needed a great pitching performance, left-hander Daniel Taylor delivered, and the rest of the Pioneer League noticed his effort. On Monday, Taylor was named the league's Pitcher of the Week for the week ending June 27.

Taylor - who was coming off of a 10-strikeout performance in his final start for the Visalia Rawhide before the California League All-Star break - allowed just a run on four hits and a hit batsman while striking out 11 batters in eight innings of work. While the Osprey could not push across a run in support of Taylor, he was credited with a complete game - the first in the Pioneer League this season.

Taylor was returned to Visalia after the performance, and is scheduled to make his next start for the Rawhide either Tuesday or Wednesday.

It's the first time an Osprey pitcher has recorded a complete game since Brett Reynolds did it in September 2, 2008, also at Helena. It's also the first time an Osprey pitcher has recorded a complete game in a nine-inning contest since Tetsuya Yamaguchi did so at Casper on July 6, 2003. Taylor becomes the fifth Missoula pitcher to earn a complete game in a nine-inning contest, and earned the 11th complete game in Osprey history. Missoula has an 8-3 all-time record in those games.

Fans can purchase tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
