Palm Beach Cardinals News Release

JUPITER, FL- After a one-hour and thirty-minute rain delay, the Stone Crabs topped the Cardinals 6-4 Saturday night in a rather "sloppy" contest that featured a combined 7 errors.

With the game knotted at 1-1 heading into the bottom of the 4th, Palm Beach took the lead on an RBI-single by David Popkins (3-4, R, RBI) They then managed to capitalize on a fielding error that advanced Popkins to second and ultimately allowed him to score on an Anthony Garcia (2-4, HR, 2RBI, R) single, good for a 3-1 lead.

It was in the top of the 6th inning when Palm Beach hit rough waters. After retiring the first two batters, Kyle Hald (5.2 IP, 7H, 4R, 1ER, 3K) thought he was out of the inning when Jake Hager (1-5, R) hit into a seemingly routine 6-3 ground out. However, shortstop Ronny Gil (0-4) committed a throwing error, giving Hager the free pass and proving to be the sparkplug for a Charlotte 2-out rally. The Stone Crabs proceeded to string together three singles on top of a second fielding error by Jacob Wilson, taking the 4-3 lead.

Anthony Garcia was able to keep his squad in the mix after blasting a mammoth solo homer in the 7th.

Unfortunately for the redbirds, it would come down to yet another fielding error in the 8th that gave Charlotte the lead. The Crabs went on to plate a 6th run in the 9th which would be enough for the 6-4 victory over Palm Beach.

Jonathan Rodriguez (1-4, 2B, R) collected his 34th double of the season tonight. Rodriguez now sits only one double shy of tying the Palm Beach single-season record (35, Castellanos '10).

The two teams will play the final game of the 2013 regular season tomorrow afternoon, 12:05 p.m. at Roger Dean Stadium.
