Palm Beach Cardinals News Release
JUPITER, FL- The playoff bound Charlotte Stone Crabs continued their winning ways Sunday afternoon at Roger Dean Stadium thanks to excellent pitching and Taylor Motter's 3-run homer run in the 8th inning.
Grayson Garvin got the start for the Stone Crabs where he tossed 4 hitless innings while striking out 2 and walking 2. The Charlotte pitching staff brought a combined no-hitter into the 7th until giving up their first hit to Jonathan Rodriguez (1-3, BB, 2R), a sharp single to leftfield.
Palm Beach was able to capitalize on the Rodriguez single when shortstop Alex Mejia (1-3, RBI, BB) doubled to right, scoring Rodriguez and taking the 1-0 lead.
However, with 2 outs in the 8th, Charlotte worked reliever Hector Hernandez (3.2IP, 2H, 2R, BB, K) for a walk followed by a single. Ronnie Shaban (1.1IP, H, R) then replaced Hernandez with runners on first and third. To the apprehension of the Palm Beach dugout, Shaban proceeded to give up a pivotal 3-run homer to Taylor Motter (2-2 HR, 3RBI), giving the Stone Crabs the 3-1 lead which would prove to be enough to hold on for the win.
