
Errors Cost Kannapolis in Game 1

KANNAPOLIS, N.C. (May 6, 2013) -- The Kannapolis Intimidators committed a pair of errors leading to two runs and the team's eighth straight loss, falling 2-1 (F/7) to the Greensboro Grasshoppers in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader.
With the game tied 1-1 in the seventh inning, Kannapolis starter Jake Cose walked the leadoff man. With two outs and the go-ahead run on third, Yeison Hernandez chopped a ball to second base that got under Micah Johnson, allowing the run to come home.
Cose (2-3) struck out a season-high eight batters but took the loss. Heworked 6 2/3 innings, allowing two unearned run on five hits with two walks.
Frankie Reed pitched a scoreless sixth for the win and Blake Logan earned the save for the Hoppers with a 1-2-3 seventh. Daniel Oliver worked five innings, allowing a run on three hits, in his first start of the season for Greensboro.
Greensboro took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. Cody Keefer reached on an infield single, and Yordy Cabrera doubled to left-center field where Ruben Sierra Jr. let the ball get past him, allowing Keefer to score on the error.
Kannapolis tied the game in the bottom of the third inning. Michael Johnson led off with a single to right field and went first-to-third on Jean Almanzar's slow-rolling ground-out up the third base line. Kale Kiser followed with a base-hit to centerfield, driving in Johnson for his team-leading 16th RBI.
The Intimidators and Grasshoppers will begin the third game of this four-game set tonight beginning at approximately 7:10 p.m. The teams wrap up this series and home stand on Tuesday at 7:05 p.m.
