Northern Colorado Owlz News Release
OREM, Utah-One night after their errors the run total, the Orem Owlz nearly matched their hit total with six errors in a seven-hit effort Friday. As a result, the Owlz fell in a rout to the Great Falls Voyagers by a score of 12-1. Orem has combined for 14 errors over their last three games. Despite the all-around trouble, Keith Grieshaber made his Pioneer League debut in a 2-for-5 night.
The miscues began in the first inning for the Owlz (19-14) as Mitchell Roman hit a ground ball to Keith Grieshaber, whose throw pulled Nick Flair off the bag at first. Flair reached down to make the tag on Roman, but the ball popped out of his glove. Roman was safe and leadoff man Jameson Fisher advanced to third. Fisher then scored on a single to left by Aaron Schnurbusch, the first of his five hits on the night, for a 1-0 Voyagers (18-15) lead.
Great Falls blew open the game in the fifth inning with a six-run lead. After he sent an RBI single to right off a broken bat, Casey Schroeder advanced to third on an errant pickoff attempt by reliever Alex Henson. Lefty Jackson Glines then took an inside pitch to the opposite field for a single over the outstretched glove of Jose Rojas at third. Schroeder scored easily on the play.
The Owlz scored their lone run of the night in the bottom of the sixth inning as Sam McDonnell led off the inning with a triple off the fence in right. Brennon Morgan proceeded to ground out to shortstop as McDonnell came in to score.
Errors reared their ugly head again in the seventh for Orem as the Voyagers capitalized and scored two more runs on two errors.
The Voyagers punctuated their night with four runs in the ninth inning, including a two-run triple to the fence in left center by Roman. Schnurbusch drove in Roman for his fourth RBI of the night with a double to left.
The Owlz will be looking to bounce back against the Voyagers Saturday at 7:05 p.m. MT at the Home of the Owlz.
