
Voyagers Offense Shines in Victory

Orem, UT-The Voyagers offense erupted for 13 base hits in a 12-1 victory Friday night to even its road series at Orem.
Great Falls (18-15) remains three games behind first-place Billings in the Pioneer League North Division after the Mustangs came back to beat Grand Junction Friday. Orem (19-14) is still tied for first in the South Division after Idaho Falls also lost Friday. The Voyagers improved to 13-5 when scoring first this season. They opened up the night with a first inning mark. Jameson Fisher led off the game with a double to left that banged off the bottom of the wall. Following an error, Fisher scored on an Aaron Schnurbusch single to left.
In the third, Great Falls quickly extended its lead to 3-0. Mitch Roman singled to start the inning. Schnurbusch then homered opposite way to left. It was his second dinger of the season. The Voyagers kept the pressure on with a tally in the fourth and two more in the fifth. Frank Califano singled with two outs in the fourth and later scored after stealing third on a catcher's throwing error. In the fifth, Anthony Villa lined a one-out double to right-center. He scored on a Casey Schroeder single lined up the right side. Jackson Glines made it 6-0 with a base hit to left.
After Orem scored a single run in the sixth, Great Falls added two in the seventh for an 8-1 advantage. The Voyagers hammered home their point with a four-run ninth to finish the scoring. In the inning, Mitch Roman smoked a two-run scoring triple to the wall in deep left-center. Aaron Schnurbusch followed with a double up the left field line that drove in Roman.
On the mound, Aron McRee racked up his fourth straight quality start for the win. McRee (3-0) worked six-and-two-thirds and gave up just one earned run on six hits with four strikeouts and one walk. Sam Pastrone took the loss for Orem. Pastrone (1-2) went four-and-a-third and allowed six runs (four earned) on seven hits with two strikeouts and three walks.
The Voyagers outhit the Owlz 13-to-7. Orem committed a season-high seven errors in the contest. Aaron Schnurbusch went 5-for-6 with the homer, double, and three singles. He drove in four and scored two runs. The five hits by Schnurbusch is a single-game high for Great Falls. Mitch Roman finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs and two runs scored. Keith Grieshaber collected two hits for Orem including a double.
Great Falls plays game three of the four-game series at Orem Saturday night. First pitch is set for 7:05. The Voyagers next road series is at Grand Junction Monday through Wednesday. The ten-game trip concludes with a three-game set at Billings. They return home following the all-star break August 4th against Idaho Falls.
