Inland Empire 66ers News Release

Inland Empire (31-42, 0-3) came up short once again as they lost to the High Desert Mavericks (40-33, 3-0) 6-4. 66ers right fielder Randal Grichuk provided much of the 66ers offense going 2-for-4 with two RBIs including his 8th home run of the year. Inland Empire committed three errors and walked eight batters to help the Mavs to their winning total.

Down 1-0 in the 4th inning, the 66ers offense got on the board as Grichuk singled in third baseman Kaleb Cowert to knot the game at one apiece. Inland Empire was able to take the lead in the 5th inning with a two out rally sparked by a single and a stolen base by center fielder Drew Heid. He was driven in by shortstop Rolando Gomez for his 11th RBI of the year. 66ers first baseman C.J. Cron increased to his league leading RBI total to 62 in the same frame driving in Gomez.

66ers starter Fabio Martinez was wild in his season debut as he walked four batters and struck out four in 2 2/3 innings of work and ran into an early jam in the 1st inning but got out of it yielding only one run. 66ers catcher Jett Bandy showed his defensive prowess by throwing out three base runners including two potential base stealers.

It will be Angels Cap Giveaway Night for the first 1,500 fans presented by San Manuel Band of Mission Indians.
