Lake Elsinore Storm News Release
Lake Elsinore - It took three hours and twenty-three minutes with 4,798 fans on their feet when with two outs and two on Connor Powers hit a single that shot past the right side of the infield as Tommy Medica rounded third to give the Storm the 7-6 win to stay in first in the South Division.
The Storm fell into an early hole in the second when Telvin Nash doubled to deep center field with one on to go ahead 1-0. Nash leads the league in most strikeouts with 120 on the season.
Lancaster furthered the lead in the third that was set up by George Springer. Springer reached base and stole second and third to sit in scoring position. After Chris Epps walked, Domingo Santana doubled down the left field line scoring two to give the visitors the 3-0 lead.
The Storm picked at that lead beginning in the fourth when Casey McElroy hit a two-out double scoring Justin Miller to put the Storm on the board.
McElroy is now 8-10 at the plate for the Storm and has scored six runs, two RBI and a home run in just three games for the Storm maintaining an .800 batting average.
Epps extended the lead for Lancaster in the fifth hitting a two-run home run that soared over the 37-foot wall in right field to go ahead 5-1.
The Storm picked up another run in the fifth when Connor Powers hit a leadoff home run. That was Powers third home run in three consecutive games at The Diamond.
In the sixth Storm catcher Rocky Gale was the game changer of the night. A walk by Rymer Liriano and a single by McElroy put runners in scoring position with one out. Gale hit a deep fly ball that continued to sail hitting the video board for his first home run in a Storm uniform tying the game up at 5-5.
Lancaster regained the lead in the seventh with the bases loaded when Jonathan Meyer singled scoring Ben Orloff.
Down a run in the bottom of the ninth the Storm looked to the Rally Cop to start things off. Justin Miller walked and scored off a Medica double, his 13th of the season to tie the game up. The JetHawks looked to turn the double play intentionally walking McElroy but Powers came through for the Storm win.
On the mound the Storm had a collective group of Mark Pope, Jerry Sullivan, Jeremy Gigliotti, Greg Gonzalez, and Kevin Quackenbush who collectively allowed 14 hits, only six runs and struck out 10 together. Quackenbush picked up his second win of the season.
The Storm are now 39-34 and will look for the sweep tomorrow when they take on the JetHawks with a new 5:05 p.m. game time. Fans come out for our last Reading for Rewards day at The Diamond and come celebrate Thunder's Birthday!
