Spokane Shock News Release

SPOKANE, WA (June 12, 2014) - The Spokane Shock have activated quarterback and reigning AFL MVP Erik Meyer from injured reserve, the team announced Thursday. Meyer was placed on injured reserve after sustaining a shoulder injury during the Shock's 70-21 victory over the LA KISS on May 4.

In seven games prior to being put on injured reserve, Meyer had completed 65 percent of his passes for 1544 yards and 32 touchdowns. In addition to his work through the air, Meyer had recorded 35 rushes for 64 yards and 13 touchdowns, putting him three rushing touchdowns shy of the franchise single-season record.

In his career with the Shock, Meyer is 3-0 against the San Jose SaberCats, Spokane's opponent this Saturday. In his three games against the SaberCats Meyer has thrown for 635 yards and 16 touchdowns with zero interceptions; he has also rushed for 43 yards and five touchdowns in those contests.

"It's great that he healed a lot faster than normal; having his surgery done with Northwest Orthopaedic Specialists and the treatment he's got to this point with PT Associates and our team trainer Julie Woolf has been fantastic," Shock Head Coach Andy Olson said. "They've done a good job of taking care of him and he's done a good job of taking care of himself."

After losing two quarterbacks to injury within 48 hours in early May the Shock now find themselves with two veteran quarterbacks on the roster in Meyer and Brian Zbydniewski.

"We went from zero quarterbacks to now having multiple guys who I believe are being capable of playing and winning games," Olson said. "Obviously two veterans are better than one. It's a good situation to be in, it's a good problem to have. We feel more confident that if something goes wrong again we've got someone to step in no matter what and play for us."

The Shock take on the San Jose SaberCats in a Pacific Division matchup this Saturday, May 14 at 7:30 p.m. in a game being nationally televised on CBS Sports Network.

The team returns to Spokane to take on the San Antonio Talons on Friday, June 20 at 7:00 p.m. PDT and tickets can be purchased for only $14 by visiting SpokaneShock.com.
