Philadelphia Soul News Release
PHILADELPHIA (June 12, 2014) - Coming off of a tough loss on the road, the Soul are looking to get back on track in Week 14. The Soul (6-6) will head back home to take on the east Division rival Pittsburgh Power (9-3) for the second time this season. This rematch will take place on Saturday, June 14 at 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center. The game can be viewed on The Comcast Network.
Last week's game against the Tampa Bay Storm was a close matchup that did not end in the Soul's favor. With a final score of 56-49, the team realizes it's time to refocus and prepare for the next game. Soul head coach Clint Dolezel is looking to get the team back to a successful standing and start a new winning streak.
The Soul plan to continue to run the ball behind their offensive line in this Week 14 matchup. Soul FB Derrick Ross is coming off of a great week against Tampa Bay. He won the Russell Athletic Offensive Player of the Game for his 13 carries for 27 yards with three rushing touchdowns and one receiving touchdown. He now stands at 129 career rushing touchdowns, which surpassed former record holder and AFL Hall of Famer, Barry Wagner's 127. On the season, he has 338 rushing yards for 23 touchdowns.
Soul WR Ryan McDaniel had an efficient week as well. He won the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game Award after hauling in 10 receptions for 109 yards and two touchdowns. On the season he has 79 receptions for 1,015 yards and 19 touchdowns. WR Tiger Jones had eight receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown, giving him 76 receptions for 1,061 yards and 25 touchdowns. McDaniel and Jones will matchup with Power LB, Arvell Nelson, who has a total of 45.0 tackles and three pass breakups on the season. Power DB, Brandon Freeman, will also bring tough competition to the Soul offense. He has a total of 43.5 tackles and seven pass breakups altogether.
The Soul defense is going to matchup well with the Power offense. The Spalding Highlight of the Game against Tampa Bay was awarded to Soul DB, Rayshaun Kizer, for his interception off the net in the fourth quarter. Kizer had 3.0 total tackles and one pass breakup, tallying 66.5 total tackles, 19 pass breakups and six interceptions on the season. Close behind Kizer is DB, James Romain, with 49.5 total tackles, 12 pass breakups and four interceptions. Soul LB, Joe Goosby, also had a productive game with two total tackles, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. On the season, he has 34.0 total tackles, four pass breakups and two interceptions.
The Power offense will provide a great matchup for the Soul defense. Leading Power WR Shaun Kauleinamoku, has a total of 84 receptions for 950 yards and 14 touchdowns. Close behind Kauleinamoku is WR Rodney Wright. Wright not only won the J. Lewis Small Playmaker of the Game last week against the VooDoo, but also had the AFL Highlight of the Game. On the season, Wright has 28 receptions for 475 yards and eight touchdowns.
The Soul will stay on their home turf for Week 15 where they will take on the Cleveland Gladiators. This game will take place on Saturday, June 21 at 6 p.m. at the Wells Fargo Center.
