Missoula PaddleHeads News Release

MISSOULA, MT - The Missoula Osprey have announced that starting right-handed pitcher Eric Smith has been promoted to Class A South Bend for the remainder of the 2009 season.

The second-round pick in the 2009 MLB Draft for the Arizona Diamondbacks, Smith was 0-3 with a 4.21 ERA. In 25 2/3 innings pitched, Smith struck out 21 batters and allowed the opposition to hit at a .233 clip.

His best start as an Osprey came in his last time in a Missoula uniform, this past Thursday at Ogden. In six innings, Smith scattered six hits and three walks while surrendering just one run, and struck out six batters in what would be a 5-4 Osprey loss to the Raptors.

The Osprey have also announced that right-hander Chase Anderson, who has missed the past week due to a death in the family, will take Smith's spot in the starting rotation. Anderson is 3-0 with a 2.25 ERA, with 40 strikeouts in 32 innings pitched.

Anderson's longest outing of the season - 3 2/3 innings pitched out of the bullpen - came in a Missoula win over Great Falls on July 31. His first start will take place on Wednesday against the Voyagers at Ogren Park Allegiance Field. Anderson is 1-0 with a 1.64 ERA in 11 innings pitched against Great Falls, with 12 strikeouts.

Tickets for any remaining Osprey home game this season can be obtained by calling the Osprey at (406) 543-3300, stopping by the Osprey Team Store at 412 W. Alder, or ordering online at www.missoulaosprey.com.
