Eppley Signs with the Pirates

Right-hander Cody Eppley, who made six appearances for the Lancaster Barnstormers in September, signed a minor league contract with the Pittsburgh Pirates for the 2014 season, it was announced earlier last week.

Eppley, 28, was a regular in the New York Yankees bullpen in 2012, posting a 1-2 record and 3.33 ERA over 59 appearances. The Dillsburg, PA resident also fired four scoreless appearances in the 2012 ALDS against the Detroit Tigers. He opened the 2013 campaign with New York but was optioned to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after just two appearances. The Minnesota Twins acquired his contract in mid-season and assigned him to Class AAA Rochester where he was 2-0 with a 4.88 ERA in 22 outings.

He had previously pitched with the Texas Rangers after signing out of Virginia Commonwealth in 2008.

With the Barnstormers, Eppley allowed three hits and four walks in 4 1/3 innings from September 1 thru 10.

He is the second member of the 2013 Barnstormers to sign with a Major League organization this off-season. Left-hander Nate Reed was signed by the Boston Red Sox in October.
