Kane County Cougars News Release
GENEVA, IL - The Kane County Cougars are partnering with the Citizens Utility Board to offer fans an energy-efficient giveaway at several games in 2008.
Compact fluorescent light bulbs will be given to the first 2,000 fans before five games this season, beginning with Wednesday night's 6 p.m. contest against the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers.
As cost-of-living expenses continue to rise among U.S. households, research has shown that usage of a fluorescent light bulb saves a family a significant amount of money from their monthly energy bill. Most CFL (compact fluorescent light bulbs) use up to 75 percent less energy than incandescent light bulbs and last up to 10 times longer.
"The Cougars have always provided an affordable entertainment option for fans throughout the Chicago area and by partnering with the Citizens Utility Board, we are providing an energy-efficient giveaway item that offers additional savings to our fans beyond the ballpark," said Cougars General Manager Jeff Sedivy.
If every American family switched to CFL bulbs, the country would save 31.7 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity every year - enough to light about one third of all U.S. households for an entire year.
"This is a grand slam for consumers. Not only do they get to see a great ballgame, thanks to the Kane County Cougars, but they also get a free, money-saving light bulb," said David Kolata, executive director of the Citizens Utility Board. "CFL bulbs use 75 percent less energy, so they help the planet as well as your pocketbook. That's good news for consumers facing a slumping economy and skyrocketing energy prices."
The Cougars will be handing out CFL bulbs for the first 2,000 fans attending the following games this season:
