Energy Shocked by Sioux Falls 129-128

DES MOINES, IA, February 15, 2011- Patrick Ewing Jr. drilled a 3-point shot with 5.8 seconds remaining to give the Sioux Falls Skyforce an improbable 129-128 win over the Iowa Energy Tuesday night.

Iowa appeared to be on the way to a sixth straight victory as they opened up a 73-58 halftime lead behind Curtis Stinson's 18 points in the 1st half.

After chipping away at the Energy lead early in the 3rd quarter, Sioux Falls used an 18-2 run capped by four straight points from Anthony Harris to take a 107-100 lead with 8:48 left in the game. Several minutes later, Energy star Othyus Jeffers scored four straight points of his own to give Iowa a 121-120 lead.

After the two Eastern Conference rivals traded scores, Iowa's Mike Taylor picked David Bailey's pocket and scored on a layup to put Iowa up 125-122 with 1:30 left.

With the score tied at 126-126, Jeffers scored on a drive to the basket to give the Energy a lead with 18.0 seconds remaining. Sioux Falls called timeout to set up their final play, and found Ewing at the top of the key. After a pump-fake, Ewing drilled the 3-point shot to put Sioux Falls up by one.

The Energy had one last chance, but Curtis Stinson was called for traveling with 0.3 seconds remaining, giving the Skyforce the win.

The two Eastern conference rivals traded the lead five times in the final minutes of the games.

Stinson led Iowa with 29 points and 7 assists. Center Courtney Sims finished with 27 points and 13 rebounds while reserve Michael Haynes added 24 points.

Iowa falls to 25-10 on the year. Despite the loss, the Energy have been in 1st place in their division for 135 consecutive games. Iowa now maintains a 1/2 game lead over Erie in the D-League's Eastern Conference.

Sioux Falls was led by Ewing's 27 point, 16 rebound, 8 assist performance. Veteran guard David Bailey scored a team-high 29 in the win. Sioux Falls improves to 6-24 on the season.

Iowa will take some time off for the NBA D-League All-Star break before returning home for games on Thursday, February 24th and Friday, February 25th. The game on the 24th is the Energy's 2nd annual "Education Celebration" game, and tips off at 10:30 AM. Friday's game is the annual "Midcourt Mutt" game, where fans can bring their dogs to the game.
