Energy Shakes Free of Charge at 2012 NBA D-League Showcase
January 13, 2012 - NBA G League (G League) News Release
RENO, NEV., Jan. 12, 2012 - Hamady N'Diaye is already in the show. Manny Harris is trying to get back to the show. Curtis Stinson has never been to the show.
Different players. Similar dreams. Converging storylines. Oh, and some terrific games, too.
So went the tale of the 2012 NBA D-League Showcase, which finished up tonight with the Iowa Energy and the Canton Charge trading baskets late in the fourth quarter, before Stinson hit three clutch free throws to give the Energy a 102-97 victory, its first with Stinson back in the lineup.
Mike Efevberha led the Energy (13-5) with 20 points. Marqus Blakely had a terrific all-around game for Iowa, finishing with 13 points, five rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks.
Blakely has his own unique "show" story. He was called-up to the Houston Rockets last season, but never appeared in an NBA game. An elite athlete and defender, Blakely plays much taller than his listed height (6-5), and is an intense competitor that's always earned rave reviews from coaches and teammates. His defense in the second half changed the complexion of the game.
Stinson brought rust with him to Reno, finishing 2-for-10 from the field and only dishing out three assists. The reigning NBA D-League MVP will no doubt get back up to speed quickly.
Harris struggled with shot for the second game in a row, going 4-for-12 from the field, but ended up with 14 points and eight rebounds for Canton (9-9). The athleticism and energy level are there. Harris just needs reps. After spending his entire rookie season with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010-11, Harris figures to be on the call-up short list in the coming days and weeks.
N'Diaye, on assignment from the Washington Wizards, had a solid night for Iowa, scoring 10 points and grabbing four rebounds in 20 minutes. A second-round pick in 2010, N'Diaye is a defensive project with upside as a shot blocker. He's also lauded for his character, both at Rutgers and with the Wizards.
