Spokane Indians News Release

Spokane, WA - The Eugene Emeralds have the best record in the Northwest League this season thanks to a stellar starting rotation and lights outs bullpen. Both were on display at Avista Stadium on Friday night as the Emeralds shutout the Indians 1-0 in front of 5,836 fans for Fireworks Night presented by Sturm Heating & Air Conditioning, 93.7 The Mountain, Sports Radio 1510 KGA NW Sports Talk, and Coeur d'Alene Press.

Eugene starter Manuel Rondon (6-0) tossed five innings of three-hit ball and four Emeralds relievers - Marc Huberman, M.T. Minacci, Chad Hockin and Mark Malave - combined to keep Spokane off the board as the Indians failed to ever mount a real threat. Spokane got a runner past second base just once in the game and finished 0-for-5 at the plate with runners in scoring position.

Southpaw C.D. Pelham was wild but effective for the Indians as he walked five but struck out eight in 3.2 scoreless innings. Reid Anderson (1-1) took the loss as he allowed the game's only run on a wild pitch in the top of the fifth while newcomer Chris Dula tossed a scoreless eighth and ninth inning for Spokane.

Blaine Prescott, Seth Spivey and Clay Middleton all picked up a hit in defeat. The loss dropped the Indians to 8-7 in the second half and 27-26 overall.
