HILLSBORO, OR - In the second of five between Vancouver and Hillsboro, the Hops fell flat. Hillsboro managed just four hits against a dominant Canadians pitching performance en route to a 4-0 shutout loss. Vancouver snapped an eight-game losing streak with the win.

Northwest League All-Star Tyler Mark got the start for Hillsboro and didn't have his best stuff. He battled and walked the tightrope several times, escaping some precarious jams to post a handful of zeroes. Mark worked around a leadoff double in the second and got an important third out with two on and two out in the third inning.

Eventually Vancouver broke through off the Hillsboro hurler in the fifth inning. Christian Williams led off with a single to right and was sacrificed to second by Yeltsin Gudino. Cavan Biggio, son of Houston Astros Hall of Famer Craig, followed with a walk. When Mark issued a walk to the following batter, the sacks were full one just one down.

Nash Knight followed with a two-RBI single to right to plate Vancouver's first two runs. Josh Palacios then knocked a ground ball to second base to score the third run of the frame.

Unfortunately the Hops offense never found their footing. Vancouver's pitching staff combined on a four-pitcher, four-hit shutout of Hillsboro. Mark Karaviotis, Luke Lowery, Jose Queliz and Adam Walton were the four Hops to record hits.

Though the ledger didn't read how they'd prefer, the Hops did make history during the game. Dallas Newton, a recent arrival to Hillsboro, entered to pitch the eighth and ninth innings. When he threw his first pitch, he became the 57th player to don a Hops uniform this season, breaking the single-season Northwest League record for players used in a single season. It has truly been an unprecedented year for Hillsboro Hops player movement and the numbers officially bear it out.
