Flint Generals News Release
FLINT, MI - The Flint Generals of the United Hockey League jumped out to an early first period lead and needed a gritty defensive effort in defeating the Muskegon Fury 4-3 in front of 3,020 at Perani's Hockey World Arena & Event Center on Wednesday night.
The Generals opened the scoring as center Colin Embley (19) scored his first of three goals at 7:52 of the first period on the power play for a 1-0 lead. Muskegon would cut into the Generals' lead as center B.J. Gaustad (10) intercepted a pass in the offensive zone and beat Flint goaltender Jan Chovan at 13:28 for a 2-1 score at the end of the first stanza.
In the second period, Flint regained their two-goal cushion as Embley (20) scored from in front of Fury netminder Jason Stone on some great work by linemates Pascal Morency and Kahlil Thomas at 7:22 for a 3-1 lead. Muskegon did not go away quietly as right wing Scott Hollis (39) connected on the two-man advantage at 5:01 to make it a 4-3 game. The Fury pulled their goaltender in the last minute of the game for the extra attacker but the Generals shut the door to secure the victory.
