IceHogs grab six players in 2004 draft

Rockford, Ill.- The Rockford IceHogs, proud members of the United Hockey League, selected six players in Tuesday's 2004 UHL's North American Amateur Draft. The IceHogs picked defenseman Dylan Rochon (round two), winger Peter Rynshoven (round three), forward Derick McIver (round four), defensemen Brian Sipotz and Simon Mangos (round five) and center Aaron Gill (round six).

The IceHogs top pick, Rochon, is currently playing for the Metro Fighting Moose, a Junior "A" hockey club which is a member of the Continental Elite Junior "A" Hockey League. The 6-4 d-man has 7g-23a-30p in 45 games this season.

With the third round pick, Rockford selected Rynshoven, a right-winger for Mercyhurst University. The forward is also skating in his senior season with the Lakers and through his first three campaigns has racked up 35g-43a-78p in 101games.

The Hogs selected a pair of Ferris State University skates with a fourth and fifth round pick, nabbing McIver and Mangos. Both players are seniors on this year's squad, and both serve as team leaders with the Bulldogs as McIver is the club's team captain and Mangos is the alternate.

Also selected in the fifth round was Sipotz, a 6-7 defenseman out of Miami (OH), University. Rockford then picked the University of Notre Dame's team captain, Aaron Gill, with their final pick. Gill has helped lead the Fighting Irish to their first NCAA tournament this season.

Next Home Game: Wednesday, March 24 vs. Quad City Mallards. Game time is 7:05 p.m. Tonight the Mallards make their final visit to the Rockford MetroCentre. Wednesday is also another WXRX $1 Beer Night and the first 500 fans to the game will receive a fly swatter courtesy of Swat Pest Control.
