Elmira Jackals News Release
The Elmira Jackals, proud member of the United Hockey League, announced that left wing Jamie Thompson has been named Sher-Wood UHL Player of the Week and goaltender Peter Aubry has been named UHL Goaltender of the Week.
Thompson receives the honors after scoring eight points in week 22. With the Jackals leading scorer Don Smith on call-up with Rochester, the 30-year old stepped up to lead Elmira to a perfect weekend sweep of Port Huron and Adirondack. Thompson had four goals, set up all four Nathan Gillies' goals of the weekend and finished the three games with a +5 rating. Thompson's hat trick Friday led Elmira to a 5-3 win, then twice he assisted Gillies Saturday, including game winner, as the Jackals completed a two-game sweep of the Beacons. Sunday the Framingham, MA native again gave Gillies the helping hand, his eighth point of the week as the Jackals downed the IceHawks 3-2.
Sometimes when a team sweeps a weekend their goaltenders do not have to see that much action; this was not the case for Peter Aubry. Aubry faced 100 shots in two games; he stopped 39 of 41 Friday and made 46 saves Saturday for a two-game sweep of the Port Huron Beacons. The Sudbury, Ontario native, who finished the week 2-0-0 with a 2.50 GAA and a .950 save percentage, now has twenty of the Jackals twenty-nine wins on the season. This is the third time this season that Aubry has been awarded UHL weekly honors.
The Jackals are on the road this week for games in Port Huron on Friday and in Richmond on Saturday, before returning to the First Arena Sunday afternoon to complete a Home-and-Home series with the Riverdogs.
