Elmira Pioneers News Release
Elmira picked up its eighth win in a row tonight, jumping out in front of the Jackals 1-0 early, then holding on down the stretch for the win. Down 1-0 in the top of the third, New Jersey first baseman Kevin Grijak knocked a 2 RBI double, giving the Jackals a 2-1 lead.
The lead would not stand for long, as Dennis Abreu and Steven Checksfield would both hit RBI doubles in the bottom half to put the Pioneers up 3-2. Juan Infante answered in the fourth for the Jackals, doubling down the line, driving in 2 more runs.
The game would be put away by Elmira in the fifth inning when, after an Abreu run to tie the game, Checksfield smashed his second homerun in 2 games, putting the Pioneers up 6-4 before Abreu drove in the seventh Elmira run in the next inning. Abreu finished 3-5 with 2 RBI, Checksfield finished 2-4 with 3 RBI and a Homerun.
