Brockton Rox News Release

The Rox lost the opening game of their three-game series to the Aces, 10-5, in front of 3,725 at Campanelli Stadium Monday night. Second baseman Mike Torres left the game in the ninth inning after colliding with first baseman Kris Zacuto, while attempting to catch a fly ball.

Torres was conscious as he was taken by ambulance to a local hospital for evaluation. He was 4-for-4 with three RBI in the game, extending his hit streak to 10 games.

The Aces jumped on Rox starter Jerry Dunn for six runs in the first inning, as Dunn did not retire any of the five batters he faced, before giving way to reliever Matt Bennett.

The Rox got two runs back in their half of the first inning. With two outs, Nestor Smith and Jake Daubert (3-for-4, 2 runs scored) singled, and scored on a Torres double to right, cutting the Aces lead to 6-2.

But the Aces added single runs in the second and third innings, going up 8-2.

The Rox scratched back a run in the fourth as a Torres single up the middle scored Daubert. They added another run in the fourth on a Kris Zacuto home run, his fourth of the season, to left, halving the Aces' lead, 8-4.

The Rox got one more in the eighth as Chad Stewart's sacrifice fly to right scored Abner Arroyo.

The Aces put up two more runs in the ninth, improving their lead to 10-5, before closing the door on the Rox.

Bennett went six innings, giving up three runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three. Jon Koch pitched the final three innings, allowing two runs on five hits, and striking out two.

The Rox (24-13) and Aces (6-31) meet again Tuesday at 7:11 p.m. at Campanelli.
