Elmira Jackals News Release
As a community owned team, staying active in the community is extremely important to all of us at the Jackals. During August, our staff was able to participate in many unique events and to meet many of you, our terrific fans. We hope you enjoyed seeing us around in August, and we look forward to continuing to interact with you in the coming months as we gear up for hockey season!
Blade's Vacation
Wondering why you didn't see Blade around much in August? He's been on vacation! Blade took a trip down south to get freshened up for the new season. When he came back in late August, he was looking better than ever! Blade missed all of his fans while he was gone, and now he's ready to get back to business.
Italian American Festival
In early August, Jackals staff joined Blade at the Schuyler County Italian American Festival. They marched in the parade and engaged with local Jackals fans. As the summer winds down, we're enjoying getting a chance to spend time outside with our fans!
Blade's Book Buddies
On August 12, Jackals staff members attended the end of summer party for Blade's Book Buddies at Eldridge Park. Every child that logged 500 minutes of reading received a free ticket to a Jackals game as a reward. The Jackals will recognize these readers at our October 17th game!
Strong Kids Safe Kids
On August 22nd Jackals staff members and Blade attended the Strong Kids Safe Kids of Chemung County 31st Annual Festival. This annual festival is a free back-to-school event. Blade, back in Elmira after his "vacation", took pictures with kids and helped them to get excited about going back to school. Blade and the Jackals staff members also used this event to promote the upcoming season.
Clear the Shelters Day
On August 25, Jackals Assistant General Manager of Hockey Operations and Director of Broadcasting and Media Relations, Jared Abbott, participated in Clear the Shelters Day. Clear the
Shelters Day was a nationwide effort to help shelter animals to find forever homes. Jared took home an adorable dog named Cali from the Chemung County Humane Society and SPCA- we hope she gets along with Blade!
End of Summer Bash
On August 28, the Corning YMCA hosted an End of Summer Bash for all children in the Elmira/Twin Tiers area. Families from the community were invited to the event, where they played games and enjoyed the end of summer. Attendees also learned about healthy snacks and other ways to stay energized and healthy during the school year. Blade had a great time at this event playing games with the kids and encouraging them to stay active!
