WHEELING, W.Va. - December 31, 2012 - The Elmira Jackals wrap up their seven-game road trip tonight with their third visit of the season to WesBanco Arena. They will take on the Wheeling Nailers for the third time in the last two weeks.

The Jackals are facing the Nailers tonight for the sixth of 10 meetings this season and third of five at WesBanco Arena. The Jackals are 2-3-0 against the Nailers this season (currently on a three-game losing streak) which includes an 0-2-0 mark in Wheeling. Elmira has out-scored Wheeling 11-6 at home but has been bested by a combined 9-3 count in its two games in Wheeling. The Nailers are returning home after a 1-1-1 trip through South Carolina while the Jackals are trying to pick up their third win of their seven-game road trip. After tonight's game the Jackals won't play Wheeling again until February 10 in Elmira.
Being away from home on New Year's Eve is nothing new for the Elmira Jackals. Since joining the ECHL for the 2007-08 season the Jackals have played a road game on December 31st five times, including tonight. The only season they had off on the holiday was the 2008-09 campaign. Elmira is 3-1-0 in New Year's Eve contests. Last season the Jackals picked up a 2-1 shootout win in Trenton to ring in the new year. The year before was Elmira's lone New Year's Eve loss by a 5-2 count in Kalamazoo. The Jackals were 2-0-0 on New Year's Eve (winning in 2007 and 2009) at the historic Cambria County War Memorial in the Johnstown Chiefs' annual New Year's Eve Game before the Chiefs relocated to Greenville.
