
High-Scoring Forward Matt Beca Joins Stingrays

North Charleston, S.C. - The South Carolina Stingrays, celebrating 20 seasons of hockey in the Lowcountry and proud ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League (NHL), announced today that the team has traded forward Matthew Pistilli to the Florida Everblades. In return, forward Matt Beca has been assigned to the Stingrays from the Everblades by the Charlotte Checkers of the American Hockey League (AHL).
Beca, 26, appeared in 31 games with the Everblades this season and was fourth in team scoring with seven goals and 16 assists for 23 points. Last season, the Mississauga, Ontario, native led the Everblades with 60 points (21 goals, 39 assists) in 62 games and helped the team capture their first Kelly Cup Championship alongside current Stingrays defenseman Kevin Quick, netting 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 18 postseason contests. Beca saw action with the Checkers earlier this season grabbing one assist in seven games and has skated in 12 total AHL contests, with Charlotte and the Springfield Falcons, over his three-year professional career earning one goal and one assist.
Prior to turning pro, Beca attended Clarkson University for four seasons picking up 123 points (51 goals, 72 assists) in 149 games and was teammates with Stingrays forward Shawn Weller during the 2006-07 campaign, guiding the team to an ECAC championship. Weller is currently on loan to the St. John's IceCaps of the AHL.
The Stingrays are on the road Friday, January 4 and Saturday, January 5 against the Gwinnett Gladiators and Greenville Road Warriors at 7:35 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. before returning home on Sunday, January 6 to face the Everblades at 3:05 p.m. on Kid's Day at the North Charleston Coliseum.
