Rancho Cucamonga Quakes News Release
Rancho Cucamonga, CA - The Quakes earned their third straight win overall on Wednesday night, as they held on for a 7-4 win over the Visalia Rawhide at LoanMart Field.
Jaron Elkins smashed his second grand slam of the year and Marlon Nieves won his Cal League debut as the Quakes beat their division rivals for a second straight night.
Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Quakes benefitted from a pair of bases-loaded walks, taking the lead against Visalia starter Erick Reynoso (2-7). Leading 2-1, Elkins came to the plate and belted his eighth homer of the year, Rancho's second grand slam in as many nights, as the Quakes took a 6-1 lead.
Nieves (1-0) was strong over five innings, as he allowed just two runs on three hits, striking out seven and earning the win.
Things got interesting in the ninth, as Visalia scored a pair of two-out runs off Shawn Oduber, but Dilan Figueredo struck out the tying run at the plate to earn his third save and end the game.
Rancho (11-15, 52-40) will send Jesus Tillero (0-0) to the mound in his Cal League debut on Thursday night, as he'll be opposed by Visalia's Mervin Fell (3-2) at 6:30pm.
Thursday will be a Thirsty Thursday, thanks to Tequila Comisario, with drink specials throughout the night, including $3 Pepsi products and $5 domestic drafts. Tickets are available at rcquakes.com.
