Kingsport Axmen News Release

ELIZABETHTON, Tenn.-For the first time in four series, the Kingsport Mets lost a best of three games as the Elizabethton Twins exploded for 17 runs on the night to dominate the K-Mets in a 17-3 Game 3 win Thursday night at Joe O'Brien Stadium.

Prior to Thursday's 14-run loss, the K-Mets (12-15) bested the Danville Braves, Bristol Pirates and Burlington Royals by winning two of the three games in the league series dating up to the showdowns with the E-Twins (11-16) over the course of the past three days.

Elizabethton scored in bunches all night by tallying four runs in the first inning, three in the second, two in the fifth and four more in both the seventh and eighth innings.

The first inning rally started with a one-out single from Travis Blankenhorn. After Alex Kirilloff flew out to right to record the second out of the inning, consecutive run-scoring doubles from Lewin Diaz and Shane Carrier would ring in the first runs of the ballgame.

Back-to-back walks when then bring Andre Jernigan to the plate and on a 1-1 pitch, Jernigan blasted a two-run single to left field to make the score 4-0 after the first inning.

Kingsport would bite into the deficit by scoring one run in the frame that followed after Jose Miguel Medina came around to cross home plate after tagging up on a sacrifice fly from Jeremy Wolf. The Elizabethton lead was now at three runs after an inning and a half.

Carrier would then lead off the bottom of the third inning with a solo home run to center field. Mitchell Kranson would double right behind him and move up to third base on a single from Caleb Hamilton. Kranson would come into score on a passed ball from Kingsport starter Adonis Uceta (2-3) and an RBI groundout from Robert Molina at the bottom of the lineup card plated Hamilton to bring the score to 7-1 after three innings.

After gaining a run back on an Anthony Dimino groundout, the E-Twins brought in two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Another RBI single from Jernigan plated Hamilton and a run-scoring fly out from Blankenhorn brought in Jernigan a few batters later to increase the Elizabethton lead to seven runs.

Kingsport would again tack on another run in the top of the sixth inning thanks to an RBI single from Wolf with two outs. The hit brought in Jose Maria who led off the inning with a strikeout but advanced to first base on a passed ball from the duo of Tyler Wells (1-1) on the mound and Molina behind the plate.

That was the last run Kingsport would account for on the evening as Elizabethton scored four more runs in each of the seventh and eighth innings to add to their lead.

RBI hits from both Diaz and Carrier did some damage in the seventh inning and again in the eighth, as the duo drove in five runs combined between the two innings. Kirilloff also recorded an RBI fly out in the eighth inning.

Uceta was charged with the loss for Kingsport after pitching only four innings of nine-hit baseball while giving up six earned runs. The righty tallied five strikeouts during the loss while also yielding a solo home run.

Wells picked up his first win of the season for Elizabethton after pitching five innings with a large lead intact. The starter surrendered eight hits and three earned runs but struck out six Mets during the process. Ryan Mason came into the game to finish the final four innings of relief for Wells while yielding only three hits in a scoreless effort.

Carrier and Diaz provided the bulk of the run support for an E-Twins club that tallied 19 hits on the night. The duo combined to go 5-for-10 on the night with eight RBIs and four runs scored and a walk. For Kingsport, Medina tallied his first four-hit game of the season, all singles, and Wolf drove in his eighth and ninth run of the season in a 2-for-3 effort.

The Kingsport Mets will try to begin another series winning streak as the club travels to Pulaski for a weekend series over the course of the next three days to continue the nine-game road trip. The probable Kingsport starters for the series will be Max Wottell, Jordan Humphries and newly acquired Sixto Torres who was just promoted from the Gulf Coast League Mets.

There will not be a live broadcast available for the series in Pulaski, however, Eric Cain will be behind the mic for the remainder of the season once the club returns home to face the Bluefield Blue Jays at Hunter Wright Stadium beginning Monday, July 25.
