Chicago Sky News Release
CHICAGO - Chicago Sky veteran center Elizabeth Williams is the recipient of the 2023 Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award, the league announced today.
The Kim Perrot Sportsmanship Award is given to a player in the league that exemplifies the ideals of sportsmanship on the court, including ethical behavior, fair play and integrity. The award is named for the late Kim Perrot, who helped guide the Houston Comets to their first two WNBA championships before passing away in August 1999 after a seven-month battle with cancer. Williams is the second Sky player in franchise history to receive the honor, joining Swin Cash who received it in 2013.
She received 15 out of 60 total votes from a national panel of sportswriters and broadcasters, followed by Ariel Atkins (Washington) with eight votes and Alysha Clark (Las Vegas) with seven votes.
In her first year with the Sky, Williams averaged 9.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists in a career-high 29.7 minutes. On July 12, she recorded her 17th regular season game with five or more blocks, tying Sylvia Fowles for fifth-most all time. Shortly after on July 20, she reached 1,500 career rebounds, becoming the ninth player in WNBA history with 2,000+ points, 1,500+ rebounds, 400+ blocks, 300+ assists and 200+ steals, getting there in 259 games, the fourth-fastest player to do so all-time in WNBA history.
Williams was also recently named to the 2023 WNBA All-Defensive Second Team and was previously a 2016 Kia WNBA Most Improved Player and named to the 2020 WNBA All-Defensive First Team.
