Saint John Sea Dogs (4-7-0-0) put together consecutive wins for the first time this season with a win over the Acadie-Bathurst Titan (4-9-1-0) on Friday night. Vince Elie and Eriks Mateiko scored their first QMJHL goals, and Brady Burns hit the 200-point mark in the 6-1 win.
Cam MacDonald and Vincent Elie led the Sea Dogs to victory with a goal and an assist each while Charlie DesRoches and Cole Burbidge each had a pair of assists.
Ventsislav Shingarov made 33 saves to get the win for Saint John while Sergei Litvinov stopped 27 and Jack Howatt stopped 11 in the loss for the Titan.
The Titan got the first scoring chance 6:07 into the opening period when Alexandre Lailler received a pass right in front of the Sea Dogs net and let a quick shot go that Shingarov would close the door on.
Brady Burns got a similar chance in return for the Sea Dogs five minutes later, but Litvinov stepped up with a big save for the Titan.
Despite taking three penalties in the period, the Sea Dogs managed to make it work in their favour as Cam MacDonald outskated a Titan defender down the ice to a cleared puck that he would put on the tape of Nico Laforge in the slot for the short-handed opening goal.
Shots were 13-12 for the Titan in the first period.
The Sea Dogs came close in the opening minute of the second as MacDonald skated in on a 2-on-1 and just missed the top shelf of the Titan net.
Three minutes later MacDonald led another offensive rush, gave the puck to Vince Elie who drew two defenders to the left side of the ice and fed the puck back to MacDonald to score on the wide-open Titan net for a 2-0 Sea Dogs lead.
Elie and MacDonald almost connected again four minutes later as Elie skated behind the net and put the puck on MacDonald's stick in front for a clear shot that Litvinov was just able to get a piece of.
The Titans drew another powerplay just over the halfway mark and Ben Allison got the best chance, ripping a shot off a cross ice pass only to have Shingarov flash the leather to make an incredible glove save.
The Sea Dogs countered shortly after with a shorthanded 3-on-1 that saw Alexis Cournoyer find Laforge for a one-timer that Litvinov got over just in time to stop.
With just over five minutes left in the second, this time with the Sea Dogs on the powerplay, Elie would take it himself and skate through the entire Titan penalty kill and put a beautiful deke on Litvinov for his first QMJHL goal and a 3-0 Sea Dogs lead.
Saint John was not done there as Sam-Luca Thifault would be denied on a wraparound attempt, but Eriks Mateiko would clean up the rebound with just 19 seconds left for his first QMJHL goal and a 4-0 Sea Dogs lead.
Shots after the second period were 31-27 for the Sea Dogs.
Howatt came in to relieve Litvinov in the Titan net for the third period.
Nolan Forster found a lane in behind the Sea Dogs defence for a breakaway in the opening minute of the third period, but would put a shot just over the net.
Allison also came close for the Titan a few minutes later, skating down the right wing and putting a shot off the post.
The Sea Dogs remained the only side finding offence though as Burbidge floated a long stretch pass to Burns who put a backhand shot past Howatt, extending the lead to 5-0 with just over 11 minutes to play. The goal was Burns' 200th QMJHL point.
Connor Trenholm put the final nail in the Titan's coffin, skating end to end and snapping a wrist shot top corner to make it 6-0.
Phillippe Collette scored the lone goal for the Titan with 3:59 left to make it a 6-1 final.
Final shots were 44-34 for the Sea Dogs.
