Winnipeg Blue Bombers News Release
WINNIPEG, MB â Elfrid Payton is back in the CFL with a vengeance.
The Winnipeg Blue Bombers defensive end played his first regular-season game since suffering a knee injury in 2003 and boy, what a game it was. "SWAC" gave Winnipeg some much needed quarterback pressure on his way to forcing a fumble and recovering two others.
His distressing defensive presence helped lead the Blue Bombers to a 32-15 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders, July 8, 2004. The CFL named Payton its Player of the Week in the lineman category for his accomplishments.
This week's honor marks the 17th time in Payton's long and storied career that he has won the CFL Player of the Week Award.
