Eleven Early Runs Boost Vipers

Posting eight runs in the second inning alone the Calgary Vipers (21-15) defeated Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions (11-22) 13-1 before 2560 fans at Foothills Stadium in Calgary, Alberta. After scoring three times in the first Calgary sent 13 batters to the plate in the second inning to take an early 11-0 lead. From there the pitching staff took over as Dusty Gober (4-1) threw six innings while allowing only one run on four hits and out of the bullpen Mike Burns, Chris Bodishbaugh, along with Claudio Galva all tossed scoreless innings.

At the plate Wilver Perez led the way with four hits including a home run while also scoring and knocking in three runs. Louie Templeton meanwhile collected four runs batted in. David Cross (2-3) took the loss after allowing 11 runs in one inning of work.

Calgary opened up the scoring in the bottom of the first inning as Wilver Perez singled, Drew Miller reached on an error, Louie Templeton tripled in both, and Aaron Dunsmore singled in one for a 3-0 advantage.

In the second frame the Vipers scored eight times for a 11-0 lead. Jeff Giacomini singled, Bryan Burke and Jonny Kaplan walked to load the bases, Perez drove in two with a base hit, Miller singled in one, Justin Tellam doubled in one, Templeton doubled in two, Dunsmore reached on an error which scored Templeton, Giacomini again singled, and Burke drove in one with a knock.

Yuma got a run back in the fifth when Chris Falls and Brent Cooper singled followed by a Jason Diaz sacrifice fly for a 11-1 score.

Calgary answered in the bottom of the inning as Perez hit a solo home run for his fourth long ball of the season, Miller was hit by a pitch, Tellam singled, and Kevin Price collected a sacrifice fly for a 13-1 advantage.

This five game series against Jose Canseco and the Yuma Scorpions concludes on Saturday July 2nd at 5:05.

The Calgary Vipers will be hosting three Women's Pro Fastpitch games between the USAA Pride and the Tennessee Diamonds August 2nd, 3rd and 4th at 6:30 at Foothills Stadium. Tickets are $16 for the Lower Bowl and $12 for the Upper Bowl. Three game packages are also available for $45 and $33. In addition there will be two skill clinics August 2nd and 4th from 10am - 12pm. Cost is $99 for a Clinic and Lunch or $120 for the Clinic, Lunch and two Lower Bowl tickets. There will also be a Lunch Banquet August 3rd including an autograph session with both teams and a lower bowl ticket to the August 3rd game for $49.95 with keynote speaker Cheri Kempf, the Commissioner of the NPF and an ESPN analyst.
